Cuzco City History

Also known as Cusco; this city was built by an Inca Emperor according to legend the same which transformed the Incas from a small farming and agricultural Indian tribe to a huge and dominating empire, although there exists evidence that is wasn’t an over night transformation but was done over a long period of years.

This beautiful city which stands imposingly at 11,500 ft above sea level was first discovered by Spaniards in 1533 where many of them established and began building many cathedrals and mansions for many wealthy Spanish conquerors. Where they mixed much of European and Inca architecture giving it a very unique structure to many buildings. Most churches were build over already existing Inca temples like the Temple of the Sun and many others.

Just about half a millennia later Cuzco has a population of about 300,000 with a booming tourist industry where millions of visitors from around the world visit this ever enchanting city.
